THE CIVIL WAR [1625-1628](1629-1640)(1640-1660).END.

INTRODUCTION:
After father james I"s death, charles I ascended the throne in 1625, He was only twnty-five years old when he came to power. But he was as staunch a believer in the divine Right theory of kingship as his father was.
THE FIRST PARLIAMENT (1625):
Charles I summoned his first parliament in 1625 to get a grant for carrying on the spanish War. parliament granted charles, tonnage and poundage only for one year. I stipulated that the grant would be released only if the king was strict towards catholics and dismissed his favourite buckingham charles did not yiled.
THE SECOND PARLIAMENT (1625):
Charle"s spanish War a dismal failure. parliament attributed it to buckingham"s mishandling of the war and wanted to impeach him. The king dissolved parliament in order to support buckingham.
THE THIRD PARLIAMENT (1628) :
To enrich himself charles extorted "forcedloan"s from the people. The money thus collected was not sufficient. So the king summoned his third parliament in 1628. He hoped that parliament would release an adequate quantity of grant to him. But parliament was firm that any additional grant would released only if the king accepted their pettition of Rights,(1628) wholly.
"THE ELEVEN YEARS TYRANNY CHARLES I (1629-1640)."
"THE LONG PARLIAMENT(1640-1660)."
CAUSES OF THE CIVIL WAR:
There were many causes for the civil War. The first one was charles I"s imposition of heavy taxes. The second cause was his sympathetic treatment of catholics and aversion towards puritans. His clashes with the parliament throughout his career was the third important cause. His costly and unsuccessful foreign wars were the text cause for the civil war. His blind support of toadies like buckingham, Wentworth and Archbishop land was yet another major casuse of the civil war.
AFTER THE CIVIL WAR:
After the civil war no king, however great he might be, was able to rule against the will of the people presented by parliament. The theory of the divine Right of kings was put into cold storage never to be used again. Thus the path was parepared for parliamentary democracy in England.
